Tortoiseshell Frog Repair & Gold Wrap Replacement

This gold and tortoiseshell frog had a missing section on the underslide near the grip. The area was particularly transparent, making the damage more noticeable. Several years ago, I cast a matching replacement piece, carefully swirling color into the casting to achieve a natural look. Once it was properly shaped and fitted, I glued it securely to the frog.

Replacing the Old Wrap

During the most recent rehair, the old tinsel wrap had begun falling apart. To restore the bow’s appearance and functionality, we opted to replace the wrap with imitation gold brass wire. This provided a clean, polished look while maintaining a historically accurate aesthetic.

These careful restorations ensure the bow remains both structurally sound and visually refined, preserving its elegance for years to come.
